Linyanti, Selinda and Kwando Reserves
Lying between the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park, these large private game reserves hold high concentrations of wildlife and provide a remote setting for a safari.
Lying between the delta and Chobe National Park are Linyanti, Selinda and Kwando, large private reserves with abundant wildlife. The permanent water of the Kwando-Linyanti river system is a magnet for animals in the dry season. Game roams freely between these reserves and those of the delta - there are no fences. This is an excellent area for predators, with wild dog, cheetah, leopard and numerous lion.
Safari camps in the concessions are remote and accessible only by air. You will not be game viewing with a crowd of people and vehicles. Generally, you will be able to follow the game off-road, take night drives and enjoy game walks. In addition, some camps also offer water-based game activities.
Safari camps operate to a high standard, with comfortable beds, lighting, private facilities, excellent guides and good food. Your choice of camp will depend on the activities you seek, the season, the size and style of camp you choose and the degree of luxury you prefer.
Selinda camp is an owner-run camp on the Selinda Spillway, which, when flowing, connects the Okavango with the Linyanti. It overlooks a vast flood plain, studded with palm forests, and is known for its hippo-hunting lion, cheetah and wild dog. Spacious tented rooms accommodate up to 12 guests. Outstanding guides lead game drives and walks; and boat trips, when the water is high enough.
The Selinda Walking Safari is a three-day trail from Selinda to its sister camp, Zibalianja. It is not a trek; rather, a walk with expert trackers who share their knowledge and the opportunity to get deep into the bush. Overnight at two trail camps, with solar lights and bucket showers, and enjoy superb bush cooking under the canopy of stars. At Zibalianja Camp, Meru-style tents on platforms accommodate just six guests.
Savuti Camp is a small and intimate camp in a remote wilderness area in the south of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. The camp is set on the Savuti Channel, a legendary wildlife area known for its predators. The waterhole in front of the camp is the only source of water for miles around during the dry season, making this a notable game-viewing location all year long.
Beside the Linyanti River, Linyanti Tented Camp has five large walk-in tents, reminiscent of the safari camps of old. The camp has expert guides for mokoro and walking tours, and game and night drives throughout the area. In addition, Canadian-style canoes are available for excursions in the nearby lagoons.
